On Thursday February 26, 2026, the NASW-MD was thrilled to host our 29th Annual In Person Student Advocacy at the Maryland State House in Annapolis. We are proud to announce our sold out registration and collaboration with our Student-Faculty Committee for this day filled with advocacy and action.
Social work students across the state of Maryland were brought together to learn, connect, and how to advocate at a macro level for the communities they serve. Student Advocacy Day provided participants with hands-on experience in the legislative process and the opportunity to network with other students and faculty.
The program featured a keynote address from Delegate Jamila Jaye Woods, MSW, who issued an official citation to the National Association of Social Workers - Maryland Chapter in recognition of their leadership in hosting Student Advocacy Day. The Maryland General Assembly honors the NASW-MD for empowering students to engage in the legislative process, advance social justice, and strengthen advocacy efforts across Maryland.
Throughout the day, students participated in roundtable discussions with peers, to deepen understanding of the legislative process, received updates on current state bills, and attended legislative hearings while engaging in meaningful conversations about the policy priorities impacting Maryland communities. Students also had the opportunity to venture into the State Capitol for lunch and get a first-hand look at advocacy in action with a rally across the street.
We are so excited to announce the success of both Virtual and In-Person Student Advocacy Day and thank any members, students, staff, and our Student-Faculty Liaison Committee for their efforts during these events! To our future social workers and current advocates, thank you for joining us and engaging in advocacy!
