Your NASW student membership automatically includes both National and Maryland Chapter memberships—at no extra cost!

How can I get involved as a student member?
There are many ways to connect and build your professional experience:
- Volunteer at NASW–MD events and conferences
- Attend Student Advocacy Day in Annapolis
- Participate in student-only workshops and networking sessions
- Join committees or working groups that interest you
- Request a class presentation from NASW–MD staff or board members
- Apply to become a Student Representative on the NASW–MD Board of Directors
Can NASW–MD representatives speak to my class?
Yes! You can invite a staff member or board representative to present to your social work class on advocacy, licensure, and professional development.

what is the nasw-md student advocacy day?
student advocacy day is one of nasw–md’s most popular events! held annually in annapolis or virtually, this event brings together social work students from across maryland to:
- learn about advocacy and public policy
- meet and speak with state legislators
- participate in workshops and policy discussions
- network with peers and professionals
it’s a great way to see the impact of social work at the legislative level. it is also a great way to volunteer as two student and two faculty members serve on the nasw-md student-faculty liasion committee who help plan this event.
do student members receive graduation cords and gifts?
yes! nasw–md celebrates your achievement. active student members receive nasw–md graduation cords and a small gift as part of your membership benefits. make sure your membership is current to receive your graduation package.

what workshops and events are available for students?
nasw–md offers free or heavily discounted opportunities for students, including:
- licensure preparation courses
- professional development workshops
- state and regional conferences
- networking and mentorship events
can i volunteer or intern with nasw–md?
absolutely! students are encouraged to volunteer or intern with the maryland chapter to gain valuable experience, build professional relationships, and learn about chapter operations.
who represents students on the nasw–md board?
nasw–md has bsw and msw student representatives who ensure that student voices are heard. after graduation, you can connect with the new professional representative, who supports recent graduates as they transition into the field.
membership costs & renewal
how much does student membership cost?
nasw offers discounted student dues—up to 75% off regular rates.
- bsw students: $60 per year
- msw students: $60 per year
after graduation, you’ll receive transitional membership rates for the first 2–3 years as a new professional.
