Synopsis: New Professionals interactive CEU event focused on helping students, recent graduates, and early-career professionals understand the path to licensure and how to maximize supervision throughout their careers. The event will review key considerations in the licensure process, including preparing for advanced licensure, selecting a supervisor, tracking supervision, and understanding the supervisee’s role in professional development. A primary focus will be the difference between agency-provided supervision and independent or external supervision, including benefits, limitations, costs, power dynamics, conflicts of interest, and continuity of support.
Learning Objectives: at the end of this presentation, attendees will be able to
- Identify key steps and considerations in the social work licensure process.
- Describe strategies for selecting and maximizing supervision.
- Differentiate between agency, independent, administrative, and clinical supervision.
- Identify common ethical issues and power dynamics within supervision.
- Explain the value of continued consultation and mentorship after independent licensure
